In a recent interview, O'Dowd joked that the aliens would likely be shocked by the state of the city, saying: "They'd be like, 'This is the centre of the universe? This is the place that's been broadcasting EastEnders for 30 years?'"

O'Dowd's comments come as he promotes his new show, Small Town, Big Story, which explores the quirky side of life in small towns.
